New Features

Game Play

Pause quick-play games, based on your preferences, with the new Live tab on the Scheduled Games screen. Choose pause preferences from a list of play results, game situations, and teams. You can pause games in late innings of close games, during no hitters, after injuries or ejections, during game and season milestones such as 4 HR games, long hitting streaks, 20 win seasons, and more. When a game pauses, you can view the play-by-play or box score, continue until the next pause, or finish the game without additional pauses. There is even an option to join the game in progress! You may never quick-play seasons the same way again!

When managing both teams, resolve plays in one click with the new quick Pitch-Hit button.

New hotkeys provide quick access to replays, box scores, infield positioning, and more.

Customize which stats are displayed on batter and pitcher stat lines on the game screen.

Generic split rules allow you to set which batters will have their game results determined using generic left/right splits rather than real splits. For example, apply generic splits to all batters with fewer than 200 at bats.

Game era files include more detailed data for even more accurate replays! Also, we've added the ability to enter era data for your own custom leagues.

Bullpen and pinch hitter screens include more data and the ability to view the Player Form directly from the screen.

Game Play

At Dave Koch Sports, we use every available published stat and expertly formulated subjective ratings, to make Action! PC Baseball the most realistic and exciting baseball game you can play!

Playing Action! PC Baseball is fun and easy! All of the tools that you need to set game preferences, play exhibition or league games, and create reports are conveniently organized in our user-friendly game interface. Once game play begins, you can make strategic game-changing decisions with the click of a mouse. Make basic decisions like changing pitchers or using a pinch hitter, to more in-depth moves such as maneuvering your infield and outfield depth, pitching around batters, and warming up pitchers in the bullpen. Determine whether your players will hit, bunt, hit and run, or steal. The Action! PC base coach displays the percentage chance of successfully sending a runner to the next base as well as the arm strength of the player who will be throwing the ball! Substitute a late inning defensive replacement, or use that situational lefty to get a tough out in the 8th inning. All of the strategic decisions are in your hands!

Action! PC Baseball allows you to customize your game screen with a variety of display options. It features every big league park and the ability to import your own! The optional video chalkboard option allows you to view ball flight, throws, base runner and fielder movements. Rich and varied play-by-play, including hundreds of rare plays, will pull you into the action. Play-by-Play refers to many game and season statistics such as hitting with runners in scoring position, monthly batting, hitting streaks, and in-game summaries.  Color commentary includes ballpark specific references, player nicknames, and even home run distances!  In fact, there are over 10,000 play-by-play descriptions for a simple ground out to shortstop!  Optional pitch-by-pitch mode with realistic adjustments to balls, strikes, balls put in play, batting average and other results. All adjustments are based on batter, pitcher and ball-strike count. Pitch-by-pitch mode can be utilized based on inning and base runner situation and can be changed from batter to batter.

The Game Preferences form allows you to display a number of player features, including player game and season stats to date, fielder range, throwing arm and fielding percentage, and base runner rating and steal percentage. Features such as video chalkboard, pitcher fatigue, pitch speed, bullpen warm-up, projected outcome box, and out-of-town scoreboard are just a click away.

The Roster form allows you to fill out your team's lineup for the day. You can use a team’s daily lineup, allow the computer to auto-fill your lineup, or fill out your own lineup based upon the opposing pitcher, players' vs. lefty/righty batting average, defense, or any of a number of factors. Program a lineup and starting pitcher for every game if you wish.

After the game, you can view the box score or email game files to your league statistician or other league members with the click of a button. Whether you’re playing against a friend or the computer, replaying a season, playing in a draft league or playing on the internet, you’ll love the real-life excitement of Action! PC Baseball!

Acton! PC baseball allows you to easily customize your own league. The Modify Team form allows you to change the manager, team colors, stadium, base year, and team logo.

If you're interested in building a league full of your favorite teams from past seasons, the Import Team function allows you to do just that. Insert any team from a past season disk with just a couple of clicks, and start a league full of your favorite teams.

Starting up a new draft league is easy. Start up a new league with any past season disk by releasing all players into the draft pool.  The Draft function allows you to set up and modify the draft order, and displays the list of available players, which are sortable by name, position, stats, or ratings. You can even draft against the computer.

Teams may be created, modified, moved or imported as desired with a maximum roster size of 100 players! You can even edit team colors and logos.  Players may be created, edited, released, erased, drafted or traded.  From the Roster form, you are also able to set a number of different lineups. You can save up to ten regular starting lineups, as well as set lineups for any particular date of the season. In addition, you can fill out a position depth chart for vs. L/R, rank your pinch hitters for vs. L/R, as well as set a pitching rotation, spot starters, and a detailed bullpen rotation!

View each player's statistics and ratings for a season directly from the team roster. By double-clicking a position player, both his real-life and computer stats are displayed on the Player form: pinch, clutch, home, road, stats by month, vs. L/R break down, and much more. You can display a player's fielding stats by position, as well as individual ratings such as bunt, base running, OF arm, C arm, hit and run, Power vs. L, Power vs. R, and many more. View all players, or categorize them by batters, pitchers, bat L/R, and pitch L/R. Sort the players by leaders in a category, such as batting average., ERA., on-base percentage, and many more.  You can even use custom player photos.

Action! PC Baseball boasts an extensive Computer Manager that allows you to easily program managerial preferences!  Build a coaching profile for offense, defense, and pitching.  Program lineups, depth charts, pitching rotations, and bullpens.  Set individual player usage.  Set special situations, such as pulling players for a late inning defensive substitute or bringing a reliever into a game to face a single batter.  These and dozens of other managerial preferences can be programmed with ease.  And exporting and emailing your Computer Manager to other league members is done in a few simple steps.

Our Roster Management tools offer complete options for team, roster, and lineup management.  You can set roster limits for opening day as well as September 1.  You have the option of turning off real-life transaction dates and playing your season with injuries and enforced roster limits!  You can specify a maximum number of demotion options per player.

You can make all the roster moves for human managed teams.  The computer will handle promotions and demotions for computer managed teams by calling up injuring replacements, cutting down to the required roster limits and replacing overused or ineffective players.  The computer general manager will even "call-up" emergency spot starters!

You can micromanage strategy and playing time for each player rather than by team.  Specify when to pull a pitcher based on pitch counts, when to pull a pitcher for a pinch hitter, who to use or not to use as a defensive replacement, who to pinch run for, who not to pinch run for, and many more!  You can even specify preferred left and right batting order positions for each player!

The Roster Management tools let you easily make simple or complex managerial decisions. Manage a team any way you like. It feels like real baseball.

Players are rated using every available published statistic as well as expert subjective analysis. Each subjective rating—defensive range, outfield arm, catcher arm, base running, bunt, hit and run, clutch pitcher rating, and more—is essential to accurately translate real-life characteristics of the game. For example, the clutch pitcher rating helps to accurately portray the effectiveness of a pitcher such as Pete Vuckovich in 1982, who allowed a high number of hits and walks, yet had a 3.34 earned run average and won the CY Young award. While he may allow a high number of base runners, it enhances his ability to get out of situations with players on base. We use actual L/R splits when available and estimate them for historical seasons. As a result, each player performs as he did in real life with amazing statistical accuracy.

One unique element of Action! PC Baseball is the Era tool. From 1876 to present, each year is separated statistically based upon league averages from that season.  Therefore, teams from different eras are automatically normalized when playing each other.

Every big league ball park from 1876 to present also has its own statistical breakdown for every season that it was in use. See how A-Rod might have hit in 2002 if he played his home games at Coors Field; or see how many home runs “The Babe” might have hit in 1927 had he played at the Polo Grounds instead of Old Yankee Stadium!

The staff at Dave Koch Sports is continually adding to its lineup of past season disks for all of the Action! PC sports games.
